“This ring symbolizes not only my husband and I’d love story, but also the love stories that helped to make our’s possible. I met my husband when I was living in Haiti. We quickly fell in love and were planning to get married. In order for that to happen though, I told him he needed to meet my family before we got engaged. This seemed like a rather simple thing but for us, it was a challenge because of the visa he would need in order to be granted permission to travel stateside. After lots of paperwork, appointments, fees and disappointment, we finally got the approval and were able to travel to the states.

A ring for the engagement was low on the priority list because the main goal was just to be able to get him there. We were blessed to have an amazing couple from Haiti who shared a similar story to our’s, gift us a ring that was once gifted to them when they were in our place. Because that ring has meant so much to us, I wanted to incorporate it into this design by using the same diamond shapes that are on the original - two marquise, one large round, and three small round. I also wanted to pair the six original diamond shapes with something new so I added an emerald cut diamond. The six original diamonds represent the many love stories that have gone before us to help get us to where we are and the new emerald diamond represents the new story that we are building together as one.

I choose the name “Cherie” which is French for “Dear” because that is what is inscribed on the inside of my husband’s ring. My husband speaks French Creole make it an everyday part of our lives.”
